Walking pads with incline: how steep, and how you change it

Updated

Four of the six machines on our list have some incline. Only one, the Sunny Auto Incline Treadpad, changes it by motor while you walk. The others make you step off and change it by hand, or give you a fixed tilt.

The three kinds of incline

The WalkingPad A1 Pro and the Goplus 2 in 1 have no incline listed.

Which kind to pick

Incline under a desk

Incline lifts the front of the deck. As a rough estimate, 6.6 percent on a 45.7 inch deck raises the front end by about 3.0 inches, and your feet, standing mid-deck, by about half that. Your desk has to go that much higher too. See walking pad under a standing desk.

Incline also makes the same speed feel harder. Start flat, add one level at a time, and slow down when you raise it. Brisk walking counts as moderate activity at 2.5 mph or faster, per the CDC, so you do not need a steep hill to get there.

Check your minimum belt length first, then compare the full picks on our shortlist.

This is general information, not medical advice. Check with a doctor before you start a new exercise routine, especially if you have a health condition or have not exercised in a while. Keep children and pets away from the moving belt, and use the safety key if your machine has one.
